IITs are undoubtedly the first and foremost choice of any aspiring student who intends to graduate as an engineer. Arun Sarin, Former CEO of the Vodafone Group
Arun Sarin is an Indian-American telecommunications executive. Sarin was the former CEO of the telecom giant Vodafone Group, serving from 2003 until 2008. After completing his schooling from the military boarding school in Bangalore, Arun graduated from IIT Kharagpur in 1975. He was the driving force behind the Vodafone’s strategic move into emerging markets, especially Asia and Africa, through the purchases of Turkish operator Telsim and a controlling stake in Hutchison Essar in India.
Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of New Delhi, India
Arvind Kejriwal is an Indian Politician and a former bureaucrat who is the current and 7th Chief Minister of Delhi since February 2015. He was also the Chief Minister of Delhi from December 2013 to February 2014, stepping down after 49 days of assuming power. Currently, he is the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party. He studied Mechanical engineering from IIT Kharagpur and was later awarded the Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award. And in In 2009, the IIT Kharagpur bestowed him with the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google Inc
Sundar Pichai is a computer engineer and the current CEO of Google Inc. Pichai had joined Google in 2004 as a product manager and led the innovative efforts for several of Google’s products including Google Chrome and Chrome OS which went on to become highly successful. Eventually, he took over the management of other Google products like Gmail and Google Docs and rose through the ranks rapidly. He earned his degree from IIT Kharagpur in metallurgical engineering. He is a distinguished alumnus.
Dr. Mani Bhaumik, Co-Inventor of Excimer Laser
Dr. Mani Bhaumik is a quantum physicist who is also the co-inventor of excimer laser that made possible the highly popular LASIK eye surgery for 15 million people worldwide. Bhaumik became the first student to receive a Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur when he received his Ph.D. in quantum physics in 1958. His thesis was on Resonant Electronic Energy Transfers, a subject that aided him in his work with lasers.

Nandan Nilekani, Co-founder of the Infosys
Nandan Nilekani is an Indian entrepreneur and one of the founders of the ‘Infosys’, the famous Indian IT company. He received his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from IIT, Bombay in 1978. In 2006, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan. He was also named Businessman of the year by Forbes Asia. In July 2009, he left Infosys and became the chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
Manohar Parrikar, Former Chief Minister of Goa
Manohar Parrikar was an Indian politician and leader of BJP who served as Chief Minister of Goa from 14 March 2017 until his death.
Previously, he was CM of Goa from 2000 to 2005 and from 2012 to 2014 and from 2014 to 2017, he served as Minister of Defence. He received BTech degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He was first IIT alumnus to serve as MLA of an Indian state. He was awarded Distinguished Alumnus Award by IIT Bombay in 2001.
Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO & Co-founder of OLA Cabs
An IIT–B Grad – Bhavish Aggarwal is the founder & CEO of India’s most popular Cab Aggregator OlaCabs. Soon after he completed his Bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT – B in 2008, wherein he secured an astounding AIR of 21, he started his career with Microsoft Research India as a Research Intern and later got reinstated as an Assistant Researcher.
During his more than two years of stint with Microsoft, Bhavish managed to file two patents and also got three papers published in the international journals.
Kanwal Rekhi, Venture Capitalist Angel investor
Kanwal Singh Rekhi an Indian-American businessman, Venture capitalist Angel investor, and entrepreneur, currently serving as the managing director at Inventus Capital Partners. Kanwal is credited as the first Indo-American Founder & CEO to take a venture-backed company public on the NASDAQ. In 1967 Rekhi graduated as an electrical engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India and in 1969 he received a Master of Science degree from Michigan Technological University

Sachin Bansal, Co-founder of Flipkart
Sachin Bansal is the co-founder of India’s e-commerce platform Flipkart. Bansal worked very hard for JEE preparation and went on to stand 49 in All India JEE rankings. Later, he got into Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. After completing engineering from IIT, Delhi; Sachin started working for Techspan Company. Later, his friend Binny Bansal also started working in the same team. Within the time span of around 6 months, both of them decided to quit their job to discover the possibilities of e-commerce in India.
Binny Bansal, Co-founder of Flipkart
In 2007, Binny Bansal co-founded the e-commerce platform Flipkart with Sachin Bansal. Binny is from Chandigarh and graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
Kiran Bedi, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry
Kiran Bedi is a retired Indian Police Service officer and politician. Currently, she is the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. She was the first woman to join the IPS in 1972 and she remained in service for 35 years before taking voluntary retirement in 2007 as Director General. She did her Ph.D. from IIT Delhi’s Department of Social Sciences in 1993.
Raghuram Rajan, RBI Governor
Raghuram Rajan is 1985 pass out from IIT Delhi in electrical engineering where he was a gold medalist. In 2013, it was announced that he will take over as the RBI Governor for the next three years. He is currently the vice-chairman of the Bank for International Settlements. Earlier, he was also appointed as a chief economic adviser to India’s Ministry of Finance.

Narayan Murthy, Founder of Infosys
Mr. Narayan Murthy completed his master from IIT Kanpur in 1969. After initially working with Patni Computer Systems in Pune, Mr. Murthy founded Infosys in 1981 with a capital injection of Rs. 10,000 along with six other software professionals. Today, Infosys is a global software consulting giant with its headquarters in Bangalore. Mr. Murthy served as the CEO of Infosys from 1981-2002, as the Chairman and Chief Mentor from 1981-2011, and as the Chairman Emeritus from August 2011 until May 2013.
Satyendra Kumar Dubey, Civil Engineer from IIT Kanpur
Mr. Satyendra Dubey graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Kanpur in 1994 and completed his M. Tech from IIT BHU, Varanasi in 1996. Mr. Dubey led an exemplary life and accomplished extraordinarily commendable work. He lost his life while fighting the rampant corruption in Indian society. To celebrate his life and to commemorate his beliefs, IIT Kanpur has established an annual Satyendra K Dubey Memorial Award that is given to an IIT alumnus for displaying the highest professional integrity in upholding human values.
Lalit Jalan, Director, Corporate Strategy and Affairs of the Reliance Group
Mr. Lalit Kumar Jalan is the Director, Corporate Strategy and Affairs of the Reliance Group. Mr. Jalan completed his B. Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1979. He later went on to pursue an MBA in Finance from Wharton School and MS in Computer Science from Moore School of Engineering, the University of Pennsylvania in 1982. Mr. Jalan has spearheaded the transformation of Reliance Energy, a plain vanilla distribution company into over Rs. 23,000 crore RInfra. He simultaneously holds the post of Chairman of BSES Rajdhani & BSES Yamuna Pvt. Ltd.
Prem Das Rai, Indian politician from the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party
Mr. Prem Das Rai, one of the most notable IIT Kanpur alumni who is also an Indian politician from the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party. In 2009, he earned the distinction of being the first and the only member of the Parliament with degrees from both an IIT as well as an IIM after being elected to the Lok Sabha from the Sikkim constituency. Mr. Rai continues to work towards the betterment of the Sikkimese people.
